Has anyone used the Johnson Beetle Spin successfully to catch a lot of good consistent crappie. From what I have read, it is especially effective during the Pre-Spawn(which is what I am looking for)
Also, to make things even better, has anyone tried combining the Beetle Spin with either a Rooster tail or something like a Road runner head? I would think the double spinners couple be an amazing crappie slaying machine but was curious if any of you had tried it!

One of the most under used techniques Is casting a beetle spin ,road runner, or an 1/8 oz. jig with a spinner blade . One of the volunteers at Enid used to find the red banks that had those small washed out gullies (they might not be 2-6 inches wide ) . He said at the end there will be a small amount of sticks/leaves . Only did this once with him but you will get 1-2 per target if they are there . This was before the 12 inch rule on Enid but it was how he fished other than trolling . He bought the "Arkie " blades at Walmart to add to his own hand made jigs .
Beetle spins work Great! I use them if the water is muddy!
We trolled beetle spins on Clearwater Lake in the '70's for crappie. Killer technique. Back then we had no electronics, no gps, nothing fancy. just tossed them out as far as we could cast them and put the little 9.9 in gear and trolled as slow as the motor would run. Fun times
I have had good luck pushing them below a weight at .8 mph
Spins, Runners, Roostertails, they all work. You find hungry crappie they will hammer those, and even if they are a little slow you can get them to bite these baits as it triggers a reaction. Muddy water they work great, but also in clear water when they are suspended deeper. Just be prepared for other fish as well, bass, catfish, gar, perch, brim, they all like them. Good luck.

Only work if you fish them on an old metal foot zebco 33 reel. lol.

People still use those. That reel has caught more than any other I bet.
