Gonna give it a go tomorrow, 3/30/19

Haven’t posted here in a couple years. I’m gonna give it a go tomorrow and hopefully will be able to post up a productive report afterwards. Gonna take a drive to a south coast MA pond and see if I can get a few to cooperate from the kayak. I have a craving for fish tacos.

The water temps are still very cold and I’m not exactly sure how to target them. The plan is to fish south-facing shorelines, look for a bit of structure (just picked up a new to me fish finder), and find the warmest water possible. Any further advice would be great. Im just excited to get out. Will post pics tomorrow, hopefully with a few fish.

Good luck, I hope you get a few. I'm thinking you should be fishing slowly, like a jig under a bobber but I have very little experience in early season fishing. Probably smaller baits might be a good idea as well as I'm guessing they are still somewhat slow in their feeding habits, sort of like ice fishing.

Lots of waters here are closed to fishing until opening day on the 13th of April. I probably won't start until at least May to avoid the rush of all the trout fishermen.

Well, I went out to a new pond today with low expectations. The first 3 hours was absolutely nothing. Water temp was 45. I was throwing a little spinner with a 2 inch grub. Finally, I caught a couple nice crappie in an area where the temp was 47. I decided to focus on that area in about 15 feet of water. I ended up really dialing in on them, slow drifting a jig bouncing it along the bottom. I ended up catching about 40 slabs, all between 10-12”. Excited to fry a few up.
