COUPLE OF QUESTIONS
dropshot- I know what the rig looks like, but do you cast it like the bass guys and drag it back? Or do some of you troll it on bottom? And is the weight always in contact with the bottom?
Single polling- Is this a term for vertical jigging and or casting?
For what ever reason, I think of it as vertical jigging in my feeble brain. Straighten me out guys.
Vertical jigging- For those of you that fish that way 75 to 99% of the time, does that include the spawn? Looks like that might spook shallow fish to me.

In my world,
Drop shot is bass sinker on bottom with two hooks above and used mainly spider rigging. No not hitting bottom unless they are hugging the bottom. Some use it in deep water fishing stake beds and brush. Let weight hit brush and keep hook above it to keep from getting hung up.
Single poling is one rod with a jig fished into stake beds or brush. Use it year round but fish it a lot during the spawn. Won’t spook fish. Have caught them so shallow you could see their backs out of the water.

I have used a jig & lure as the bottom weight and caught doubles and it's done well in +10' vertical jigged. I haven't had much success dragging & pausing after a long cast regardless the depth but rather use a light jig to cover water under 10'.

For me when the water warms up into the 50s the drop shot is gone
In my area I only use it as a last resort because they don’t really want jigs.
Where I fish the spawn is one pole one jig and big fish in heavy cover.

I think vertical jigging is dropping a jig down below my platform of choice to some degree .
I don't drop shot so I cant answer that one .
but to be sure I mostly use one rod at a time and that I think is single poling

At times I will use a heavier jig on the bottom to get a lighter 1/32 ounce jig down in water deeper then 10 feet give them a choice.. A person can set it up any way they wish I have used a 3/8 ounce jig on the bottom and a small crank above and pushed or pulled it.

Single pole fishing does not spook much because fish do not spawn in clear water . It is possible "if" there is grass or ledges that protect beds . Drop shot is basically bottom bumping while sitting still . If it's deep enough you can fish straight down .You can cast and drag/lift back to you .

I will use a modified drop shot when fishing from the shore. I imagine you could also use this method from a boat in waters less than 12 feet. I cast it out under a slip float. Adjust the slip float for the depth you want. There is a #4 hook on the top with a 1 1/2 inch soft plastic and a 1/16th jig on the bottom with a two inch soft plastic. The lures are 8 inches apart.
