A guy came by work yesterday and we talked fishing for a few minutes. He then asked me if I ate crappie eggs. I said, "um, no." He told me that was his favorite thing to eat and if I wasn't going to eat them, to save them for him. I thought he was joking but he said he put some oil in a pan, put some cornmeal in the eggs and fried them like salmon patties.
So... how many of you eat crappie eggs?
I've done in numerous times, back when I was young. Kinda got away from it after a couple of instances where the egg sac wasn't fully intact & I got hot grease splattered on me when I put them in the skillet to cook. I haven't bothered with them in the last few decades, since the Consumer Warning lists them as having Mercury or PCB contamination ..... plus the fact that I never "really" thought they were "all that". :biggrinQuote:

When I was a kid I ate them boiled. We would make sure the sac was intact, then gently drop in hot water, bring to a low boil until they were cooked though. Dip em out, just a touch of salt....Havent' done that in a long time though.. Never did fry them
My dogs love them when I am cleaning fish.
My cats scratch my legs for them when I am cleaning fish. Used to eat them fried but wife does not like them so I just quit saving and cooking them.
