Good am on the Chick 3/18/19
Water flow today was 112,000 cfs when we quit fishing at 11:30 AM. The surface temp was 52.9 at 8 when we started. The wind was from the NW at 9 mph and lake barely whitecapping. But we fished in a cove that was partially protected and stayed on docks.
We fished with Bonehead tackle Stump 🐜 and color didn’t seem to matter much. I have 10 different colors of Stump Bugs and we tried 9 of those colors and the only one that didn’t produce was Paradise color and that is because the lake is clearing up nicely. Paradise is the orange/Chartreuse color and is great in brown water, but not so hot in green water. Don’t ask me why?
i have said this many times while posting on other forums and this is something that you should do before you decide that the fish have quit biting and you search for a new spot. When the fish quit biting, switch colors or lure profiles and many times, the fish will start biting again. This is what happened to us this morning. More than once.
Blue Ice was hot and after we caught a few fish, they stopped biting. I then put on a Bluegrass Stump Bug and caught 5 in a row. The fish stopped again, and I put on a silver body/Chartreuse tail and they started biting again. Phil put on a Chartreuse/Confetti color and they ate it up. Then I put on a color that I forgot the name but it was sort of clear with black flakes in it and it was best color today.
The north wind was cold and we decided to call it a day. 27 keepers and I don’t know how many short 9” fish that we had. I did catch on small bass which was probably a Coosa Bass because of the red/orange eyes that he was proudly displaying. Grin. I won’t post all the pics that we took.
