Plane cxx filler spool problems

A few years ago I started spolling my spinning reels the proper way. Line coming off the filler spool counter clockwise, goes on the reel spool with no line twist.
Well the pline cxx spools have a catch groove for clipping you line into to keep it from unraveling for storage.
Well the notch is on the back side of the spool. They have there line spolled on clockwise, label up and that line keeper is on the back.
So when I flip the spool over to have the line coming off counter clockwise when spolling my spinning reel properly it catches constantly and makes it absolutely miserable to spool my reel. Last few spools I got have been like this.
Any of you guys noticed this?

Yep! took a screw and a washer and screwed that sucker to the table!!!!!!

Put the spool down about 5' past your rod with the cut for the line catch facing you. That'll help. There's another that always catches me and I cant think what it is, suffix maybe? One of them kept catching mine line so I screwed that sucker down to the workbench with a 4" deck screw and a washer.

Yep, that's the way I do it except I soak mine in water for 4 or 5 days. That's also the way Richard Gene does it also. Never had a problem with line twist.

Catching on something like that cause a nick in the line maybe? I’m thinking a small piece of scotch tape over the notch and slow down just a smidge to give the line time to come past it. Best I can figure. Never dealt with it.

I used to always spool my reels like the video. I have had I think but a 50/50 chance. Sometimes I got lucky.
Since I started doing it the way I stated I have had no troubles. Be sure to close the bail with your hand not reel handle and try best not to reel against the drag. Those two help after you get it on there right in the first place.

I tried to tape the notch, used duck tape. Maybe I should have used masking or scotch. It still kept catching on the tape I’ll try thinner tape next time.
I use pline on and off in 2-6lb

All of my lines come out of Japan. They all have the same clip that is on the CXX spools. That clip can be a pain if you are spooling line up with spool laying flat on a surface for sure. I spool up my reels just like in this video.....yes it goes against the grain of what most say to do. But it works and works well. I have zero line twist.....I can’t afford any line twist at all. I have several rods that the tip is only 6/10 of a millimeter in diameter.....more with tips at 7/10 of a millimeter in diameter. Using lines....with many at a diameter of .105mm.....if there is any line twist it will wrap around the tip in a heart beat......and I’m subject to break a very expensive rod.

Interesting that you use Pline CXX on your spinning reels. It was my understanding that CXX was designed for casting reels and not for spinning reels.

Have you have good success with CXX on your spinning reels?
