Canyon lake crappie

Anyone in the new Braunfels/canyon lake/bulverde/spring branch/San Antonio area catch crappie out of canyon lake. the only place I know 100% to catch crappie in canyon in a dock off of cranes mill road know to the locals/me as the crappie dock. And one other place that is just off boat ramp 8, a tree coming out of some deep water looks like it might harbor some but I haven’t fished it yet. Off the crappie dock it’s about 23 feet give or take with some kind of structure everyone says it’s something different but we mainly catch Crappie off of live minnows on a Carolina rig not many are Caught on jigs. and that is the only place I’ve ever caught a Crappie and it was on live Minnow . Does anyone know of spots to catch crappie on canyons lake

If you have a boat, you can try the structure added by texas parks and wildlife. The GPS cordinates are online. I do not believe Canyon is known for the crappie though..

Thank you I though about it I been planning to all summer and canyon lake isn’t know for any kinda fishing it’s mostly a resort lake but I have pulled some slabs out and some nice cats . I have also seen Montser striper

Up the river around the Devils Hollow/Rebecca Creek and in Rebecca Creek area was good to me once some years ago. Lots of timber in the Guadalupe up that way. There’s a park there with a boat ramp. If you’re on foot or boat it could work out for you. We were about to unload in the lake and we asked a local guy that was taking out for some pointers and he told us to go up there. Said it’s usually good from winter to spring.

Crappie fishing has been pretty tuff on Canyon lake the last couple years. The spring weather patterns diminished the spawns, greatly. Many crappie were caught with mature egg sacks after spawn, which are then absorbed though out the year. For a while, I thought the zebra mussels were the problem but not convinced that it's not just the weather patterns over the last couple years. Crappie are notorious for being great for a few years followed by a few poor years. I believe you will find that most lakes around this area have had a down turn in crappie population over the last couple years. I have been somewhat encouraged that I am finding a few larger crappie (12.5" to 13") within the last few weeks. However, it's still not consistent. I am hoping this cold weather will break the cycle. It's 24 degrees at my home this morning and Canyon water temp has dropped about 12 degrees over the last two weeks, even more now.

I’ve never fished canyon lake, but I follow flopping crappie on YouTube and he has a couple of videos fishing canyon lake..you might find something useful if you check them out
