Terrova trips circuit breaker

Hello, I bought the Terrova 80#
At the end of 2015, along with the minn Kota 60amp breaker,
I know all my wiring is 6 gauge
When running motor on high,
Won’t take long to trip brkr,
Really with speed on 7-8 will do it just takes longer, could it be a bad breaker? Thank you

I doubt it unless you have tripped it repeatedly over a long period. I suspect you have a bad connection somewhere. Recheck your ring eye connections at battery and breaker for being loose, check crimps where ring eyes were installed to cables if they are not then solder them. Next got plug in dash and make sure those connections are good and tight, that is usually first place to have a problem. Then go to lug attached to motor wires, check those connections. Then remove the head cover and check the Red and Black connections in there. You will find them covered with nylon looking tube cover on each connection. Those will just be a spade type sli connector. As they heat up and cool down over a long period of time they can become loose and heat up causing resistance which will trip breaker. Also if you haven’t done it, first pull prop and check for line build up between prop and motor.

Ah, ok never thought about them loosening after heating & cooling, and could be line behind prop. Thank you

Could be, only way to know for sure is to put an ammeter on the motor wires and see how much power it is actually drawing.

A Terrova 80 should have a max current draw of 60 amps.

Breakers can go bad but its rare. I agree with Cray.

You have no reason to put motor into water to make all the checks I gave you. Just go through that check list then take it to the water. Going through that check list you should find or fix your problem..
