Impact may vary according to model. I've updated Gen1 models (H10, H12) and had a couple of hours on the water. This update was intended to improve depth reading performance along with a few other issues. I haven't had any depth reading problems since buying the units and believe that was more of an issue with some of the G2N models. With the last two updates, it severely impacts the sensitivity/contrast settings almost to the point that now have to use Switchfire Max mode or maximum sensitivity in deeper water. Not sure I'll stay at this rev until I have a little more time on the water. Have seen a few reports of success with G2N models in other forums. You may already know you can revert back to the prior revision if you try it and don't like it.
there are several threads discussing this over at BBC forum
I installed the 1.9 update earlier and plan to see how it looks this weekend. I've been very disappointed with several of the previous updates. I called Humminbird support a few hours ago and requested a download link for earlier updates and was denied. The tec (Kimberly) had to get with her supervisor to see if they would give it to me and they denied it. She told me I could possibly brick my system if I went to an earlier update since going to 1.9. I told her that several people have been doing it with no problems but she still refused it. I have to say, I'm not too impressed with quality control within the Humminbird software update department.
Many folks have previous versions if needed - Disappointed Humminbird would not let you officially downgrade
I have found 1.90 to be good as in way better than 1.83/4
these guys can help
Anyone going to try the new helix 1.90 software this weekend??
I believe they tell you that to protect themselves. They in fact sent out prior versions if you had Ipilot/Link and tried version 1.83/1.84 which had the problem related to Link Automatic Data Update. They normally indicate in the software description if you can't revert back to a prior version because of the changes. But should never try to change back to an earlier version than what came installed on the unit. Always keep a backup of software downloaded.
I done the download today on the 1.90. On the mega10 everything went fine. Then I done the Helix 9 first generation everything went fine until I put my Lakemaster 4.0 in the slot froze my unit up big time. Only way could turn it off was main power switch,I was thinking here we go again. After restarting a few times finally start acting the right way. Everything flooded right now around here so it is wait and see thing. Anyone else ever had this kind of trouble.
