Anyone else just have a pontoon boat as their fishing rig?
I think I’m definitely at a disadvantage when it comes to trying to stay on a brush pile or structure since the wind plays such a factor in trying to keep the boat in one place. I don’t have a trolling motor on it.
Usually if if I find a good looking spot, I’ll slowly lower a mushroom anchor into the water. I’m wondering if this is scaring off the fish.
i fished from a 24 ft pontoon for years. When I wanted to fish a brush pile or a certain drop off ledge i would pull about 50 to 100 ft above the spot into the wind with the motor and put out the big anchor from the front of the pontoon, i would then let the wind push me back until i was over the spot i wanted to fish. to keep the boat from swinging i would ease down a smaller mushroom anchor off the back to hold the boat still.then we could all fish off the sides of the boat.
i also drift fished a lot in the wind, I would drift with the wind and if need be I would use drift socks off the back of the pontoons to slow the drift down sorta like long lining.

Sorry But you could not give me one of those things ... I helped a man once that his Motor broke down and he was towed back to the Ramp... there was about a 5 Mph cross wind .. he had a short Bow line and had to wade to try and get the front coming to the Trailer ,, and I used my boat to try and get the stearn in place... it took 45 Minites to get the hook of the winch attached and get it on the Trailer

I would invest in a good troll motor with ipilot, I would give up all my electronics before giving up my troll motor. I rarely anchor because I spider rig most all the time, but when I do I also get upwind pitch a claw anchor and let the wind push me back till close to brush then my anchor is not interfering with the brush
