I seen them Saturday...missed a photo opportunity, as it was very cool to see their staging uniformity, don't know what brings them for only a certain time of year, but there's a good reason they named "Bird island" as they did...supposedly 10,000 variety of birds inhabit the area over a year's time...Been seeing some of the biggest Blue Herons over there as well...
They are beautiful. I see them in different places in the cold months. Just an opinion but I think they come south when the water gets hard and the temps up north go really low. Just another of the things we get to enjoy that regular folks don’t.
Up here in Oklahoma, the pelicans have stopped in again also.
They come thru fall and early spring.
They are really beautiful and big!
They are getting ready to fly to the upper mid-west and Canada to breed. The sandhills are staging too. ( the ones that migrate)

They spend months on Kentucky Lake as well. It has to get really cold for them to leave.
