Flailing Hair
Some jig heads have ball collars that help with flaring hair. When I tie hair on a collarless jig head, I often try making a ball using thread to replicate the function of the ball collar.

I wondered whether a rubber bobber stop slipped over the hook might serve the same purpose and maybe be better/faster. I picked up a pkg of sinker stops from my local Cabellas to try it out. The rubber stops are a LOT harder to get onto the hook than I thought they would be. Maybe there are softer rubber ones available the would be easier.
Anyway, here are a couple of pictures to show the results. The two finished jigs on the left were using the rubber stop. The one on the right was using the thread ball. I think maybe the left two are flared too much?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I like some squirrels tail jigs. Those look great.

I think they will work fine. Could you slide the rubber stop further away fron the head to control the flair? Either way looks good. Great idea, thanks for sharing.

Why couldn’t you take a razor blade and cut stopper right in the middle. Then on fat end trim off a little section to reduce size of flare.

Looks like a great Idea to me, I will sure give that a try!
