I know that it’s early and the surface temp is around 48 and couple ft down it’s 45 or less ! But in the bigger females this is what the eggs look like!

The one's I cleaned this weekend also had well developed eggs but I don't think they will spawn for at least a month. It will depend on what this crazy Alabama weather does I think.
My opinion is that the one in the picture won't spawn. :biggrin
I caught fish with developing egg sacks in November. I don't think they're ahead of schedule, maybe it's just going to be an incredible spawn since last year was so goofy.
When the water temperature hits 58-60 they'll go to the banks no matter what time it is. The cold isn't over so don't get you hopes up. They should start biting better with this warning tho

The bigger the crappie the sooner they will spawn. the bigguns over 16 inches eggs will swell quicker because they usually have more fat in their gut than the 10 to 15 inch ones which will keep the eggs warmer even in cold water.. They could hit the nest by the end of FEb depending on the water temp but more like the 2nd week of March if normal. the major spawn for the 10 to 15 inch crappie will happen in the 60- 65degree range for the black crappie and that is dependent on the weather temps for sure but usually by the end of march. Its a good thing they don't all spawn at once but spread it out other wise there will be years of no eggs hatching. Its looking like there was almost no spawn 3 years ago on the big G no little ones this year in the 6 to 8 inch range
I remember in 2013 it stayed cold till spring break (late March). All the fish went to the banks at the same time. It was probably the best spring I can remember. We limited out every day for over a month fishing spawning fish. Last year I was catching males on bed in February all the way till April but it was way slower every trip.
