I have my new Livescope installed and hope to run it for the first time this weekend. Is there any settings you guys prefer that I need to be sure and change? Josh Jones, Crappie guide, had a Facebook live video awhile back and was talking about what his gain setting were as well as something to do with his maximum depth so it wasn’t constantly changing but now I can’t find the video. Thanks!

I had mine out for the first time Monday, talked with the people a garmin support before i put in. Have you ran a update get from garmin no charge. I think it was 7.50 and it updated the unit and gls10. The garmin man said after update i was ready to go. You will have to play with the gain, lot of trash in the water where i was at. What i could see on the unit was better then any youtube i have seen. The garmin rep told me when i take the transducer out of the water be sure to go the home on the echo because the water keeps the transducer cool. You may already know all i said. I think there will be a learning curve but like what i see so far.
Just hit menu and your depth options will come up. I always set mine to register the bottom at the deepest depth I’m going to fish. The gain is always up on my screen and easy to play with. About 55-60 generally works. I don’t care for the auto depth setting- it’s apt to change just as I’ve got a big crappie in my sights!

I talked to a young man that went with Josh Jones Saturday and he said Josh focuses on a small area with the livescope. Said he set the grid 20 ft out and 20 ft deep and stayed in that grid even in deeper water. It must be effective, they caught over 90 nice crappie in pretty poor conditions. He didn't know what the gain setting was on but maybe this will give you a place to start. I think it would be a very wise investment to go out with a guide such as Josh and learn how to use the livescope. I can see where this tool is going to be very frustrating to those that doesn't know how to use it correctly.
All I did was take mine off of auto depth and select Auto Gain from High,Medium, Low depending on water conditions. I can see my jig 65 ft behind boat while long line trolling.
Yeah I have sent Josh Jones a message checking to see what open dates he has and his rate to go on a learning trip. I will take everyone's recommendations with me when I go out this weekend.
I was wondering about viewing my baits at the back of the boat while trolling. Do you have your transducer on your trolling motor? If so I guess you just turn it to point towards the back? I think I'm fixing to buy one and was just wondering how you have your ducer mounted to accomplish this thanks.Quote:
