At what point, on the handle, with the reel attached, do you balance a rod?
Like, when using a Tennessee handle, with the ability to adjust the reel along the grip?

Thanks for the input!

I usually use the very front end/edge of the "handle" as the fulcrum point, but will allow that point to be on the blank, right where the blank enters the handle. Not "all" of my rods balance dead even ... but I would rather they lean towards the reel end than the tip end, because a tip heavy rod is more taxing on your wrist/forearm than a handle end heavy rod. Even so, I don't want the handle end to drop like a rock when I try and balance it, and neither do I want to have to move the reel so far forward that I have very little handle left in front of the reel's foot. In those cases I opt for a smaller or lighter reel to maintain the balance point & still be functional for the techniques I intend to use with that outfit.
I am with crappiepappy!
So CP, Trypman,
The idea balanced rod, would put the reel stem, center of the cork? So I say, put your finger, under the rod handle, up against the front of the reel stem. If it balances there, that's about perfect?
Thanks fellows!
I balance mine based on where I intend to hold it. If it is jigging rod, I use a long foregrip and hold above the reel. I balance where my index finger will rest.
For rods that I pitch jigs and retrieve them, I go close to the reel seat. That is what is great about customs. Most of mine are purpose driven so I can make them exactly how I tend to use them.
Also, like pappy, I use rerl sizes to aid in rear weight. Smaller reels, less weight.
