Spider rigging gville questions

Ok, I've searched and read everything I can find on spider rigging on here and other parts of the interwebs. Got a few questions.

I run mega units on my boat. Are you guys able to see he fish schooled up or do you just try to find the structure and go from there?

I bought some of the 12ft b and m west point crappie rods light action. Are these to light or do I need to find something different?

How do you typically rig yours up?

I've got a long lining setup on my boat off the back. Could someone spider rig off the back while I'm on the front?

My answer to your last question is Yes. My boat is not wide enough on the front deck for 2 people....so my partner (wifey) sits at the back. I set poles on the front from 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock, and her poles are set from 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock. That way we are covering about 20-25 fow in a pass. Also the person on the front could spider-rig and the one in the back longline. jmo

Rigs are as different as people. I keep it simple. Appropriate size egg sinker and two swivel thingamajigs below the egg sinker. That way if i want to use a plain hook or jig or whatever it’s easy to change out baits.

I spider rigged 3 people in my boat at least 3 times when I finally started rigging last year. I didn't start until nearly June and quit soon after because it got real hot. Two on the front deck, one on the back. The guy on the back deck caught about as many as we did on the front deck.

I didn't look for fish, I fished cover.

I don't like glass or composite rods but they'll work fine. You may need a long net. I don't know if you'll be able to lift big fish in with those rods.

Welcome to the world of spider rigging! There are as many techniques and differences as their are fishermen. I came over to Guntersville last year from MS. It was my first trip to the big G and I did what I was most comfortable with doing, which is spider rig. Had a blast and caught good quality fish the entire trip. Mostly concentrated on the secondary creek ledges 18-23 ft deep as it was late fall. I prefer 14 ft B&M PST's and sometimes use 16'. Almost always use a Kentucky style rig with the weight on the bottom and 2 hooks about a ft apart above the weight. I find this is best for my style of fishing deep ledges.

Like stated above just find what works for you in your boat. I push 16 poles out of the front of my boat with either 1 or 2 people fishing the front. I can also fish 1 or 2 in the back with 16 more poles. All according to the situation. I prefer just fishing 2 in the front with 16 poles though.
