I caught a 15.5” crappie at Norman yesterday and just assumed it was a female due to the size. What is the high end for length of male crappie? I figured it was around 13” or so.
Thanks in advance for everyone’s input.

I’m not sure there is much of a size difference between the sexes. I’ve caught 14” black crappie in the spring that were in their “tuxedo” where the male’s fins turn black. I googled the question and didn’t get back a definitive answer. I’ll keep looking.

Thanks ProV. I looked a little bit and it seems there’s not a lot of info. I did read where males tend to top out around 13-14”. Come to think of it, every 16”er I’ve caught has been “white”.
I found this: https://www.ncwildlife.org/Portals/0...ts/crappie.pdf
It talks more about identifying the two species white vs black. I’ve caught bigger whites but that may be they move to deeper water in the summer so a little more protected. (Just my theory). Blacks of the same length generally weigh a bit more.
