When casting 1/32 jigs, which will cast farther, 10/2 PP braid or 4# mono? I'm currently using 6 & 8# mono and the wind is putting some kinda bow in my line. Can't feel nothing.
My 2 reels are silver max's and my rods are 6'6" slab shaker's.
Not to impressed with the rods but they will do for now.
All else being equal, thin line casts farther than thick line. 6-8# mono is very heavy for casting 1/32 oz jigs. For mono, I would not go higher than 4# line. Before going to braid, try 4# Stren Crappie mono (not regular Stren) or SOS 2# line.Quote:

The best casting line is Nanofil or Gliss in 6 or 8lb test. I can throw a 1/64 jig 20 yards with 8lb Gliss (2lb diameter). It is costly and not very abrasion resistant but nothing cast better than these two. It's more sensitive than mono but I don't think any line is going to help you feel a bite in a stiff wind. In those conditions your gonna have to get some hi-vis line and watch the line movement. You will see the bite before feeling it. My .02
Even PP slick is not as slick as mono and definitely not as slick as some of the higher end stuff. When I cast braid I can here it grinding on my eyes and sticking to itself on the spool. I prefer to fish a lot of heavy structure so I deal with it.

10/2 Power Pro does not cast as far with 1/32 ounce jig as good 4 lb mono. I have at least 2 reels spooled with 10/2 and have tried them on multiple poles and 4 pound Berkely XT and Stren Crappie Mono either one will outcast the PP 10/2.
As someone who fish’s UL and micro jigs using 2# text line exclusively......all year long....a bow in the line from wind is a killer. The answer for me was sinking line. Now I am using an ester line out of Japan and not many are going to do that.....plus the max it is manufactured in is 3# test. Fluorocarbon sinks but I can’t see it.....that is why I use an ester line that is colored. A sinking line using jigs opened up a whole new world for me. There is another option since you like braid....get some sinking braid.

After having fished mono for over 60 years, I can tell you unequivocally that braid will outcast mono every time, regardless of the situation. That being said, in your case, I'd opt for 2# test Fireline Crystal, with a 4# test fluoro leader. You'll be able to cast those lighter jigs with no difficulty, mainly due to the thin line diameter. And that type of fused braid will handle much bigger fish that you could ever imagine. JMO! :)
