Tough Bite

What do you guys do when the the bite is extremely tough. Went to Bistineau and the fish were stacked up hard all over the place, but could hardly get a bite. I managed a small catch, but man it was tough. I fished shiners, hair jigs, scents, niblets, jigs of all colors and sizes 1/8 to 1/32 small to large profile plastics. Single pole and spider rig. Most of the fish I caught were off brush piles. Just looking for another trick that mite entice some more bites.


Conditions: windy, muddy water, full moon, slow falling water, water temp 49 to 50.

When they're not feeding sometimes you can induce a reaction bite. Try picking up the speed to .5 MPH or more and try various jigs, small spinner baits like Road Runners or even 1/4 oz Rattle Traps.

I had some spoons and road runners but left that box at home accidentally[emoji2357][emoji2357]. I figured they mite turn on at some point during the 8 hours I fished, they just never did.

I love to fish with a 10' jig pole with a slip cork using shiners hooked in the middle of the back....when the bite is slow, I will carefully hook them thru the eyes and jig it like a tube jig....bring it up about 2-3 feet and let it fall...sometimes that will trigger a bite....it was all that worked last Wednesday...I guess that you could also tightline it and swim it to cover more area.....gonna try it again tomorrow...

Thanks I didn't try the eyes but I did the tail, back, and lip. Jigging it up and down letting it sit. I caught some fish, but it was just so slow. Which I've had slow days like everyone, but it never hurts to know another trick or 2.

Well, another one of those days.......could see plenty fish everywhere...slow to non-existent bite...they left the last place I caught.....only got 6 ....gave them to a guy on the water....

I ordered some new stuff to try. Next time I go and they act like that I'll see if it makes a difference.

In that second photo water Depth 25 ft there are a few fish just under the surface -- those could be feeding Crappie at the surface following a few straggler shad pushed away from the School

I tried shallow also on those fish too. Guess it just wasnt meant to be. I was on cypress with almost identical conditions. Fish stacked like that, with fish up high also. I was able to hammer those fish up high, but the Bistineau ones just didnt want any part of it.
