I have been using crappie max hi vis 6 pound this year, and seems like I am breaking off way to much, so I switched to Viscious, and after compairing diameter, the crappie max is .009 for 6 pound and viscious is .009 for 8 pound. I fished yesterday and never broke off. Just trying to pass along info and help anybody that has had my same problems.
Started fishing in a friend's pond that is loaded with crapoie, bream and bass, along with brush and stumps. I bought a spool of 6# Berkeley Fireline and have been really pleased with it. An added bonus is it casts about 20% further than my 6# mono which helps because we use really small plugs and jigs.
I love 8# Stren & Mr. Crappie hi- viz line- a tip on knots- always wet your line when tying a knot.
i use mr crappie and vicious and havn't had any problems.
I like Gamma it is a small diameter for the pound and also the strongest by pound !!! I use 6# on jig poles and longling reels but on my trolling poles I use 10 # leaders with 12# main line ....

Tons of stretch out of Vicious. It amazes me how much stretch I get out of 8lb before it breaks
It's way overkill... but I have switched to 15-20lb hi viz braid for all of my crappie fishing. Most of the time I don't use a leader, but when I do I'll use 6lb. Using straight braid has kept me from losing a lot of jig heads. If I get hung up in the brush, I normally get back the jig head and a bent hook that I can quickly bend back and keep fishing. I like it for vertical jigging down into brush and also for casting. My favorite line is Power Pro super slick in yellow. If I get hung up real bad, I wrap the line around a short piece of bamboo (or anything would work) and pull on it that way... never wrap it around your hand or a rod handle... it will cut through!!
Oh and another tip... if you need to cut braid easily and cleanly... get you some fiskars brand child safety scissors. They work awesome and you can load up on them for about $1 each at back to school time!!
Have you tried the Invisabraid. 15 lb test with dia of 4 lb. We also tried the 8lb test. Dia of 1.5 lb. Love this stuff plus it is a Flourocarbon braidQuote:
