would it hurt to just drain lower unit oil in my 70 hp Johnson 4 stroke and leave it m/t till spring then fill it up when it warms up..don't know if I'm going to make it anywhere to get the oil soon and its supposed to drop down in low/mid twenties later this week.Im thinking it wont hurt anything as long as don't forget to put it in in the spring.
If you do put a big ole sign on motor ( No Lower Unit Oil )

No way would I drain the lube without refilling the lower Unit
Just pull the bottom plug and put it right back in. If there is water in the lower unit you will see it. If oil is OK then leave it tell spring or when you have time to go get some more. I order my online from amzoil and they ship it to your house. It a great synthetic oil. Its all I use in my lower unit and gas. After paying to have my motor rebuilt it worth what you pay for it. The engine in my truck would have been cheaper :)

Would regular oil work for a filler till you change it in the spring?
drained oil should of just left it looked like brand new..I would think only way it would get condensation is if there were really wild temp swings, no air is going to get into it and everything will have a coating of oil on it would think it would take a long time to get completely dry.
Will probably see if I can get some from the boat dealer tomorrow between running around and put it back in.
