Longlining rod angle

I’m researching longlining since I’ve never done it before and I was curious on the rod angle if the rods were straight off the back of the boat.

I do mine about 45 degrees. Any angle will work, just don't put them straight out. A good fish could take it right out of the holder.

I'm the same way. I raise the rod tip some just so the rod doesn't go flying out on a hard hit or a hang.

we angle all our rods, and run lengths from 16' down to 8'es out he back.... @ 2 foot shorter each rod until we get out the back. we Also put the one's in the back tip down (BUT THE REEL GOES BEHIND THE "Y" IN THE ROD HOLDER.

Here's how I do mine. This way gives me good "Lanes " to reel fish in.

Thanks! I was assuming that you put them up at an angle. I’m not sure which rod holders I want to get yet but here in Indiana you’re only allowed 3 rods. And I’m think a holder on each side of the motor, one for me and another for a friend.

To me, Spyderloks are the best I've used. I have two 4 rod holders on front and back. Easy to adjust on the fly with no tools needed and very strong. I even use the bases to secure my duck blind with.
