Not a good day - Shoal Creek and Honeycomb
My dad and I put in on the lower side of the Gville dam and fished Shoal Creek from ab 7:30 - 10:30. Only caught 5 crappie (all released) - water level, color and temp (62-64 degrees) seemed perfect, but I guess the crappie had other plans - we did catch a lot of white/stripe bass trolling so that was fun I suppose.
So I suggested we go to Honeycomb and shoot some docks and that’s when it turned bad. Usually my dad gets in the boat and I back the boat down and then I hop in, but this time he wanted to swap things up. I pulled the boat up to the dock and he slipped getting into the boat and fell in the water- like completely IN THE WATER! ! Thank God he was okay and we had a change of clothes in the boat....and he his only pair of dry shoes were his golf shoes lol. So after a scary incendent we were back on the water with my dad wearing his golf shoes with no socks and fished from ab 11:30- 1:00. Water temp was 63 - 65 degrees.
The boat docks (SE of the bridge) were completely covered up in shad - I have never seen so many in my life, but we caught zero crappie. Everything seemed like it was gonna line up to be a great day, but it just wasn’t meant to be!
Moral of the story, always fish with a buddy, be safe and pack
an extra change on clothes and shoes/boots!
Hope everyone has a much better weekend than we did!
