I think it will work fine if you are crappie fishing and using the 12 ft. like a jig pole or for spider rigging....the large eye (actually, usually first two) is for when you are casting for bass or throwing a roadrunner...when casting, the line comes off the spool in circular spirals and the first two eyes are for reducing the spirals down to moving the line in a straight line...
Gonna push jigs and cranks and shiners when it gets cold.

Been casting spinning reels on (2) 8ft West Point rods for several years. They are my very inside rods for cranking. Trust me when I say they work just fine....
