Mayfly Vise?

Was wondering if any members have tried the Mayfly vise from Ebay?...seems like a good price for a nice vise..
I'm Looking for a new rotary vise to tie jigs...mainly 1/16 oz...#2
Not really wanting to spend alot..but...been doing weeks of research and reading...lol
Read n reread flyfish Oh review..lol
Any thoughts n comments will help...lol

The vise looks ok for a starter vise; Im not sure about the big yellow wing nut and plastic parts. If you have been tying a while I would suggest something like a Renzitti Apprentice or Wulf Anvil vice - both are well made and wont break the bank. If you are tying primarily jigs and streamers a vise that is parallel to your table top is a better choice.

If you want a good Rotary vise, then get a good one! Meaning a name vise like Renzetti or Peak or Regal! Don't buy some off brand Ebay vise! That is best advise I can give you and if you need save a little before buying, you will be happy later! Best thing to do it go to a Bass Pro or Cabalas or some goo fly shop and put your hands on the vises, even if you don't buy it from that place, still can see and touch them. See how much room you have around the jaw and such. All the best brands are made well and with good materials.

The vise looks well made - lots of good reviews from buyers - made here - reasonable
no C clamp

For the more expensive models you can get gadgets and up grades - not sure if that applies to the Mayfly


I have a Mayfler (portable) - also made here - not sure if it's manufactured by the same company. Great little vise....

Hi Skip...thnx..yea...been doin all kinds of reading n such...can't really go anywhere to look at em.(work n stuff..ughh)...lol..I have looked at Peak...Looks really great..guess I'm being cheap..lol..ughh..and for the price of Peak...I see you Do get a Great vise..lol
Just seen the one on ebay...for the price...and the kind of tying I do...mainly crappie jigs...just figured good rotary vise would b way to go..

I was in the market for vise 4 months ago and got a great deal on a Danvise and a Renzetti. For me the most important features was the rotary function and a pedestal base. Both of my vises have these features and I tie on both of them. The Renzetti is more handsome on the table but frankly they do the same quality of work. I only tie crappie jigs so I can't compare them when tying trout flies. The Danvise is the best budget rotary out there IMHO. I don't think I can tie a better jig with a vise that cost twice as much.

Yea...I just tie crappie jigs also...
Does the Danvise feel good?....does it seem like it gets in the way while tying?...too bulky?...sorry...just trying to get ideas...lol

If you are just tying jigs a 'true' rotary vise isn't the correct tool. But get what you want - what is most important is how it feels to you.
