This may have happened before and I just did not look for it, but all gates on the dam at Jordan Lake are closed. I just took two screenshots from the Army Corp website and because of all the flooding downstream, they have completely shut the gates as you can see in the first picture. The lake is at 227.66, which puts it 11.66 feet above normal and is still rising. I haven't been down to the lake, but I would not be surprised if the Wildlife has closed all the ramps. There are times in the past they have closed them because of high water.
Many of you know that my Grandpa's farm was under Jordan and the Federal government made them sell their land and move. Of course, they and many of the neighbors fought the Fed's and obviously lost. The lake was needed for exactly what is happening right now--flood control. The flooding down the Cape River is devastating to many families. Could you imagine how much worse it would be if Jordan was not in place to capture a large amount of the water for a delayed release at a later time!! We all like to complain about government, but against a lot of opposition, they moved forward with making Jordan and Falls Lake on the Neuse River. The folks in New Bern and Fayetteville aren't sitting around thanking the government for building those lakes, but the reality is that a bad situation could be even worse if it were not for the planning of government leaders many years ago.
