Flies for crappie

I have tied my own jigs for crappie. But I recently found a small river within driving distance that has both crappie and rainbow trout. When I go this will be a trip where I want to keep my gear to a minimum. So does anyone know of a couple fly or jig patterns that I could tie that would catch both rainbows and crappies

Well I have tied a lot of these over the years, but even though I always wanted to try it, I can't seem to put down my spinning rod in Spring when I should be fishing this with my fly rod! However it just hit me while I was typing this that maybe I could fish it on a spinning rod since I long line anyway in spring, lol!

I do think there is a larger number of flies and jigs that may catch both, but since we don't have any Rainbow Trout here, I am unsure?

I use the 1/2 to 3/4" ice spoons with crappie nibbles, catches lots of bream and crappie.

Woolly buggers will catch almost anything. For trout, I would go with black or olive. For crappie, white or chartreuse would be my picks.

A small Clouser minnow would be my second choice.

Small jigs like these also work well. I wouldn't use anything bigger than 1/64 oz, though.

Foam spiders and poppers work well for bluegill and crappie.

I would fish a trout magnet on a 1/64 oz jighead or as others suggested a wooly bugger pattern would work for both trout and crappie

when Skip first told of the Crappie Candy, I had to tie some. Several different colors and they all did a good job and werent hard to cast. Clousers and deceivers also do well and other species like them as well. A good look that isn’t hard to tie.

This time of year any terrestrial patterns will catch both. In my area hoppers & ants are 'go to' patterns.

Crappie candy works the best for me!
