Clip on float

Does anyone use a clip on float that will float a 1/2 ounce weight? I don’t like using the line through floats because sometimes I don’t want a float on my line, but I want the ease of clipping on a float in certain situations. Most floats don’t tell you how much weight hey will hold.

I suggest using the 1/4 Thill waggler:

... or the biggest Thill Stealth:

I know you're looking for a 1/2 oz float, but you might not need that much weight. Even the light wagglers cast like bullets. A quarter ounce waggler will cast a mile.

To attach them, a float adaptor works best, but a snap swivel will also work.

I’m not looking to cast. I’m wanting to use them on my long rods to spider rig

In that case, I'd pick a few cheap ones and test them in a bucket of water with a half ounce weight.

Most US-made floats are big enough to save a drowning man, so a half ounce should be a piece o' cake. ;)

I could get some of those red and white round ones, but then everybody around me would be laughing. I want to at least look like I know what I’m doing!!

I would never use one of those for casting but, for what you're doing, they're probably ideal. Just attach them "bottom only".

Using a float while spider rigging isn’t common but if guides like jacky van cleave use them I’d say they have their place. No laughing matter. [emoji106]

This is what I use in really rough water. They work fine and they can laugh all day while I'm catching fish and they aren't.
