Short morning trip. 8/28/18
Dr Phil had multiple chores to do today so we only fished for 3 hours. We fished the mid lake area of Chickamauga and had moderate success.
Our first stop was an off shore drop off with stumps in 16-35 feet of water with the break occurring at the 20 foot contour. We stayed there about 45-1 hr. We had 14 bites and landed 7 which isn’t too good. My first bite was not a crappie but something big that was pulling drag, so I loosened my drag up, but the fish still broke me off after a one minute fight. No slime on the line but I’ll bet it was a catfish.
Five minutes later, same thing happened. Line break on a big fish. Boat rule says that I have to claim a Drum, but unlikely. Grin. Ten minutes later, Phil had his hook straightened out on a big fish that did leave a little slime. But we did land 7 crappie with biggest 12”.
We hit docks next and caught a few shorts in brush that was in front of the dock. Then an off shore brush pile that was in the middle of a slough and we landed more short fish. Maybe one or two 10” fish, but we didn’t keep or measure them.
We ended our morning at the intake area and caught 4 more shorts and one keeper. Calm wind and 82 degree water temp on the surface. No other boats out today, so that made it nice. We caught fish on several colors and profiles, and I stumbled on the hottest lure today, a 2” Strike King Slab Slanger in pearl color. All fish released. I do love those Curtis Hobbs Litewirehooks hooks. I have them in all sizes. Only hook that I will buy.
