Sardis 8/14/18 - Insect hatch???

Anyone on Sardis yesterday and know what the insect hatch was? They were downright awful in certain spots. My wife being the science nerd she is wanted a pic but I forgot. and we were covered in these tiny things. Didn't help that we were sweating due to there being absolutely zero breeze most of the day. The umbrella came out pretty early for us!

As for the fishing I played "net man" for my two oldest before they head off to college this weekend...we fished from 7 to 11:30 and boated 35-40 with 6 keepers pushing cranks in 20-30ft of water. Any crank in the blue/green/chartreuse color pattern seemed to be the best for us.

Here is pic from a month or two ago all over the inside of my umbrella. Had another couple thousand in the carpet of the boat. Anytime you moved or bumped the pole they would swarm. Little green buggers are a pain in the rear. Can't believe they are still around.Attachment 313667 Attachment 313668

Not sure these were gnats but I guess they could have been. They didn't bite or anything, just flying around by the millions in spots. They would just stick to you since it was so hot out and we were sweating pretty good. I have been over a few times this year and this was the first bout I had with them.

They may be what's called midges, look like a mosquito but have 2 fan like things on front. Midges. Midges (Chironomidae) are the most wide spread and numerous insects resembling mosquitoes. Adult Midges are commonly observed flying in swarms or “clouds”, or are seen resting on fences, walls, under eaves and in protected areas such as porches and entryways.

Just looked that up and that very well could be what they were. These looked like they had just hatched and were tiny but from a few of the pics on Google images I think that may have been them. All I know is they were out in force yesterday on Sardis!!

I vouch that they were awful, I opened up my seats after the 2 hour drive home and hope those things don’t survive and multiply in MO!
