Sinking line and 1/24 ounce jig head.

Around here we consider KY bass panfish. I used a 1/24 ounce jig head that Jungle Jim sent me today to catch a bunch of crappie and KY bass. I had my Fine Tail Banshee Area Trout Rod loaded up with the 2.3# test “ester” mono out of Japan......no stretch and it sinks. The 1/24 is a great size for fishing in 24 feet of water. I enjoyed the video, noticed that when you hook a fish I do not see a definite snap of the rod tip. It appears that you just start reeling faster to set the hook. Maybe it is just the camera angle from the body position? Do you set the hook with the UL JDM Rods and light lines in the traditional way (as most Bass guys do) or is it a more subtle motion due to the lighter equipment. The more I watch your videos the more questions I have!

Enjoyed the video. Those Spotted Bass just don't quit. There was a time that I fished a wooly bugger above a 1/8 oz jig and the spots loved that bugger. Almost had the rod pulled out of my hands several times.

I'm wondering if a fast sinking braid or fluorocarbon might have done the job. Sinking line at that depth is an advantage especially trolling a light lure such as a 1/24 jighead and if using 2# test, allows the best lure action.

Good eye. If I was using an Ajing rod you would notice a bigger hook set. The Area Trout rods are much softer than Ajing rods. I am giving a hook set but those rods are so limber it is hard to see. When I go to Dale Hollow to target smallmouth with one of my Ajing rods I will give that bass guy type hook set.

Nice video. You mentioned that you lost some fish. I think a bigger, wider gap hook might solve the problem if you are catching bass and crappie. I do have two larger sizes. In 24 feet of water maybe a 1/16 dart could also help in getting it down deep quicker. The hooks are Orient Sun hooks that I found on ebay. The hooks are fine wire with a small barb. Will pour some more of those soon. Nice to see that they worked for you.

Jig heads work great. I killed them again today. Going to need about 100 of them. When using the #6 hooks you will lose a few bigger fish every now and then......but I love a #6 hook.
