Fall Fishing on the 'Foot

I've lived most of my life 1.5 hours from Reelfoot, and I've never fished it. The wife and I are wanting to try it for our wedding anniversary get away.
How is the fishing the last part of September, or the first part of October?

And any recommendations for fair priced accommodations?

If we continue to be dry the water level should be low enough to see a whole bunch of stumps. Crappie will be around a lot of them!

I’ve never stayed in any of the resorts or motel type rooms but Blue Bank appears to be the nicest. I’ve heard good reports from Boyette’s resort.

I have stayed at Boyettes. They are old small cabins, but they were clean, the sheets were clean and the toilet worked. Ronnie Capps mom is the owner. She is really nice.

I'm trying to get my bearings straight on Reelfoot, is the south end of the lake the more popular end with all the resorts?

Which part of the lake is the deeper portion ? I know it's not very deep on average, but isn't there seems area that is 10-14ft deep?

And if all the stumps are beginning to show, would you advise to spider rig or 2 pole the stump fields?

The south end (Lower Blue Basin) is where most folks fish in the fall and winter and you can find plenty of water to catch fish that is 8-12’ deep. There is a good size area of 13-14’ deep water with some spots 15-16’ but I would try spider rigging double minnow rigs in 10-12’ water. Hopefully I’ll get more information soon if it cools down a little more!

We got over 3” of rain in the last couple of days so I guess the Lake may rise a little.

I was at Blue Bank 3 years ago. They did everything promised! Everything was great but the weather. But it’s very nice and clean and had very good food! Want to go back soon. Im from Alabama 40 miles north of Tuscaloosa and its worth the drive!

Regardless of where you stay, I'd suggest you leave your glass boat home and rent a boat there. The stumps are the problem. Most of the bigger resorts have aluminum jon boats with really heavy hulls, and small outboards that are built for a lake like the 'Foot. The fishable part of the lake is not so large that you need a go-faster boat to get from one place to another.
