Bought a 2006 Triton TA 196 abt 3 months ago. It has a Maxxum 80# TM on it. I am upgrading TM and certain It will have Ipilot, but torn between the Terrova and the Ulterra. I really like the auto stow/deploy, but a little worried abt the dependability of that feature with no way to stow/deploy manually. Plan to use it to spider rig, pulling/pushing cranks, and long lining. Interested in hearing from those of you who have experience with these models.

I love my new Terrova, and fought hard back and forth with same fight. I just felt I could bend over and lift it for another X years before I get an Ulterra.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one. If I was older and fishing by myself like I do I would have spend the extra and got it.

What is the shaft length on yours? I been window shopping bbg marine and cant find a 54 inch. Brian has a good price on a 60” terrova with i link but Im wondering if the head will interfere with my poles while rigging.Quote:

I ordered the 60" shaft and cut it down myself. Might want to check the pricing at mygreenoutdoors.com, that is where I ordered mine from. Best prices I've found on any model TM.

Get the 60. Don't take long to get used to it being there. You can always lower it some when rigging. I have a 52 on my terrova and when pulling cranks and I move to back of boat it's almost to short.
Get the 60", the extra length above the bow, makes it so much easier to stow in rough water.
Ditto what Cray said. I have a Triton and had a 48" shaft, didn't want a longer shaft but found a deal on a 54" shaft. Got it and glad I did but now I wish it was longer. 2 GROWN men in the back with a boat going by will suck a little air. Not bad but it does. I've just learned not to stand on the very rear of the boat or take one step towards the front when we have waves.

I wrapped a rope around my Terrova shaft right below the head. I then put a 4” piece of broom handle on it. I can now trip the release with my right foot while pulling the motor up like a cable steer unit. Saves me from ever having to pull it up by the head.

The new Terrova has lift assist which makes it much easier once you trip the button.
