Bream/crappie fishing on Douglas Lake

Hey guys, this is the first time I've been out hiiraan crappie.com in quite a while. My 14 year old, one of his buddies and me have driven over from W. TN to Douglas Lake for the week and one of the things we want to do is try Fishing Off The Dock of the cabin that we rented. It's on the Southeast side of the lake but I can't tell you exactly where. Could somebody offer us some suggestions about fishing for crappie and bream (and maybe even catfish) here on Douglas? We'll be bank fishing unless I just can't stand it and end up trying to find a fishing boat to rent this week. Thanks!

You might try posting this in the forum for whatever state Douglas Lake is located.

That said, small jigs will catch bluegill and crappie in all fifty states. Tipping with bait often helps.

Douglas Lake is pretty much at Full Pool right now. That means it is in the bushes and does not fish well from the bank. Dock fishing is fun, and will best be done at night. I would suggest rigging up a light next to the water at your dock (lanterns, electric flood light) and turning it on about 8:30pm, then begin fishing it an hour or two later and throughout the night. It will be cooler, less crowded, and lets Nature provide the insects and bait fish to attract the gamefish. For day time fishing I would suggest the Public Boat Ramp at Dandridge Bridge in the town of Dandridge. They spent about a million bucks on a new fishing pier/dock. It has chairs, boat slips, and Tables. It has been well received and always has several people fishing from it. I have given away many a catfish to the dock fisherman this spring. Get there early in the morning for a good spot. There is NO SWIMMING from the dock as it has electricity, and is safer for the boaters and fishermen. Muddy Creek bridge and Indian Creek bridge are also good bank fishing areas as they are pinch points in the creeks (deep water areas) and can provide some bank fishing, just have to climb down through some rock and riprap. The extreme upper end of the lake has an area around Leadvale Baptist Church that has an old graveled railroad track as a peninsula with a boat ramp at the end. I have caught catfish and drum from that area from the bank. It may be a little dingy from the rain but is clearing up fast due to the water generation. Hope this helps, Douglas is a popular lake for the "Lice" so be prepared for lots of boat traffic on the Holiday weekend.
