rod opinions

i was wondering what kind of rods everybody else uses for casting and retreiving and veritcal jigging. I like my 6'0 falcon ultralight for casting and a 12 bnm jig pole for vertical jigging.

I'm a big fan of the berkely lightning rods for casting. I use 10' uncle buck jig poles (b&m). I wish the handle wasn't so long, though. I would like to get a 10' pole with the reel seat real close to the end of the pole, so you could reach out just a little bit more. I may check into getting a 12' uncle buck. I want to get a real gps & spider rig set up first.

I like the 5 ft. Shakespear Ugly stick with a Mitchell Avocet 500 spinning reel for casting. I use 10 and 11 ft. Wally Marshall mighty light jig poles and really like them.

Jason Piper has a bunch of B&M poles we used on his boat they were great you can realy feel those bumps, and they cast nice.they also have a place to hook your hook at the reel end of the rod, keeps down tangles traveling.
I will definately have to have to get some of my oun.

For slo-trolling, I use six or seven 13' B'n'M slo-trollers. They work out great for me...especially for how much they cost. I don't have a single complaint about them so far.

The rest of my fishing usually consists of a 10' jiggin pole. I usually use a cork over my jig, so I use a B'n'M Tuff-lite Crappie Master. It is a really great pole for cork and jig fishing. I've had mine for over 20 years, and they will still pull a 2lb slab out of the thickest cover imaginable. They are telescopic, but are only 2 pieces. They also have the reel seat that can be moved down to the bottom of the pole, sort of like a fly rod. This makes a very big difference in the feel. I can hold that pole in my hand all day long and never get tired. My scullin' paddle arm is a different story tho...:D

I don't do much casting. But I got a BPS micro-lite rod/reel combo. I haven't even put line on it yet, so I can't give you a good review of it. I do know that the price is good.

Either Shakespeare Ugly Stick / Crappie Master or B & M for sure....I am really not all that picky, I try to stay away from gouging my bank account if it's not necessary, some of the "off-brand" stuff works ten times better then the high priced merchandise, not all the time, but sometimes....especially when dealing with plastic baits and fishing line.....!!! MM

I bought a 4'6" Wally Marshall dock shooter and I was using it the other day casting road runners and you could feel the hits much better then with my cherry wood berkley rod.

I let my wife use it for a while and she caught a lot more fish. Now she wants me to buy her one.

I am not pole poor in my boat. I try to have one for every occasion ready to go. But, I am not picky about brands. Most of mine are 6 to 7 foot for casting and tite line jigging. I keep a couple for ultra light casting as well. Most all of them were bought at Academy or Walmart. They had to "feel right" though before I bought them. Almost forgot...almost everyone is about 6 " shorter than new from one mishap or another.
