Pulling cranks braided line ?

Ok just getting started with this have all kinds of stuff showing up at my house next week. I was planning on using 30# braid to help save a couple as I was learning. Where is the best place to get you braided line. What should I look for. I have never really used braid before.

I ordered KastKing on ebay and use 40# but 30 is fine

I was trolling cranks when Buck Perry first introduced "Spoonplugging" for bass. Had several sets of his innovative cranks and his techniques and teachings are still as effective today as they were back in the 60's. He always used 12# test "stiff" (low stretch) monofilament. Today, with the advent of braided lines, we can control the depth & speed of our cranks a lot more precisely. If you can break a 12# test braid, you are one powerful fisherman, in my opinion! I find it hard to break off 4# test Fireline on a snag. But, if your confident with using 30# test braid, go for it. Just remember, the line diameter is the prime factor in controlling depth and speed.

I use 30 pound braid offshore for Dolphin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Cobia and Blackfin Tuna. I think 30 pound might stand up to a Crappie but who knows?

It's not a matter of standing up to the crappie but more about pulling loose from hang ups, keeping big catfish from biting the line in to and cutting down on how many the gar get, I use 40 because it's the same diameter as 10 lb test and most of the charts are based on 10 lb

2 reasons for 30 # first it is the same or very close to 10# mono in diameter and that is what all the charts are based off 2nd well I may want to see what that tree on the other end looks like.

I use 15 pound Spiderwire braid main line and 3-4 foot fluorocarbon leader in 8 or 10 pound test, but I tend to pull crankbaits in open water without many snags.

I read a lot of Buck Perry's teachings back in the early 70s when he was with Fishing Facts Magazine. Crestliner08 is right, it definitely applies today. Knowledge is the key to fishing success.
