Trolling cranks ?

I read on all my cranks to tie the line directly to the lure. Why?

I want to put a snap swivel on there so I can quickly change colors and depths .

So what I losing with the snap swivel??

What disaster awaits [emoji51]

I always use snaps. Doesn’t seem to bother the crappie in kentucky any. Maybe your crappie are smarter or have better eyesight. :yikes

I use snap swivels 100% of the time. More than 1 way to skin a catfish.

The reason they tell you that is, most all crank baits come with a split ring installed and are designed to be cast and retrieved lures. The lure for the most part will get its best action tying directly to that split ring. This is just my opinion but since they came out I have always just used a #1 DuoLoc snap and not noticed any difference in the action. Now using snap swivels I have noticed a difference in several baits action. Personally I see no need for the swivel part. And a lot of people I see use one that is way to big for the bait they are using.

Any reason or advantage in taking the split ring off? Seem the snap would take its place in the freedom of lure movement.
