Guys,
A dentist friend gave me about 30# of used dental film. What is the best way to get the lead separated from the paper? Have any of you guys ever used this before?
Thanks,
Barry

2 things happened- the dentist saved money by giving it to you and the film is very toxic. Be very careful. My 2cents
Be careful!! Very toxic do not breath fumes!!not sure he can give or sale it to you. Has to dispose of the lead.:twocents
Never done that type, but I do all of my reclaiming in open air, not in any enclosure of any kind. Low wind and a fan giving direction to the smoke might also be a good idea.
Thanks for the warnings guys. I do all melting outside with a fan blowing fumes away. From what I've heard the lead from this film is very pure. After further inspecting the box, there is a lot that don't have the paper backing on it. I'm going through it picking out the ones that don't have the paper. I'm using forceps to pick it up so as not to handle it. Again, thanks for the warning!

I get it from my dentist. I just take those that have paper on them and throw into pot. It will burn off then skim residue off the top with old spoon or ladle. It is pure led and is great for jigs you just want a real shinny head on without paint.
Don't worry about the fumes from the film - your melting lead for f*%$#Sakes. Toss it all in the melting pot, I usually add some nice clean lead to mix in. Flux and scrape off the ****e, pour into ingot molds. Have a beer n feel proud of yourself.
