Murray 6/9/18...with others
Another weekend has come and gone and I was blessed to spend a few hours on the water with family. Friday night I had to go music-ing at the local watering hole that most know as the Frayed Knot. I picked guitar till the crowd could hardly stand up and finally made it to my bed about 3:00 AM Saturday. Now, I love to fish, but I love my sleep too.....needless to say a pretty little girl woke me up about 6:30 AM saying, "daddy, what are you doing???" After a few failed attempts of going back to sleep I finally peeled myself out the bed and got on the move. LOL
I picked my brother in law up and off to the lake we went. It was 9:30 AM before we got to fishing and things started off slow. After a few stops we only had a few fish to show for our efforts and then, while idling past the ramp, i saw one of the best jiggers around loading his boat up....didn't take long before I put 2 and 2 together. We were fishing behind him and about 2 other boats we saw later....
That's just how it goes sometimes. We still managed to piece together a nice little mess of 9 crappie before we called it quits at 12:30 PM. We lost a few and broke one off so all in all it wasn't a bad quick trip. Jigging was the key to our catch and junebug/chart was the color. Slow and patient was the ticket to catching a few that weren't easily picked off by others. We fished woody cover and a few docks and caught fish in 4-20 FOW.
Later that afternoon the crappie snatching vessel turned into a family boat and I carried all my girls out for an afternoon of boat riding and swimming. It was sure fun!!! Little Miss Raelyn had so much fun driving the boat that she needed a nap and Brantlee enjoyed the water as much as anybody. Me and Mama just did our best to relax and take it all in.
It was a great weekend with some great memories. I'm looking forward to Friday so I can try them crappie again. Maybe this time I'll beat the weekenders to the punch!!! LOL
