Anyone ever had any luck there? There's Fred's boat launch about 15 mins from my house. I just have heard you can't catch much but I admit I haven't tried. Any advice for going?

I’ve never fished it. I fished Bayou Barbary off Hwy 444 earlier this year but the water wasn’t right. It drains into the Amite. I’ve heard of good bream fishing around there but not sac-a-lait. I’m going to try it again sometime this summer if I ever get a break from work.

There are sacs in the Amite River system. It's like anywhere else you have to put in the time to find spots that hold fish. I have a few spots I try when I go. Sometimes they are there and sometimes not. When I strike out I go searching for new spots. Time on the water is the key. A place to fish that close to your hose is a big asset. Good luck.
Try north and south of Fred’s. They don’t mind some current and I like to fish eddies around down trees and deeper docks. This one was a resident!
Hey Scotty,
Plenty of feesh to be caught. I like Coyell bay. Gets me out of the river traffic. I like the diversion canal too. Plenty of docks. Petite Amite is good. Never catch a lot of big feesh but the feesh have it tuff IMO. Good luck and keep us posted.
Try colyell Bay. It's halfway between Fred's and diversion. I have some deep spots that hold fish year round. Without giving you coordinates, I'll tell you one of them is from the mouth of the little oxbow til about halfway to the bend. It's a maze of laydowns, so use weedless heads or be prepared to lose some. Also, ive done well at the bridge at the mouth of petite amite and the first two drains on the left. Believe the map says one of them is bayou Pierre. As for the amite river proper, I treat it like the tickfaw during the warm months: off limits to fish. Too many knuckleheads to run you over. Cooler months, you can find them relatively close to the deep bends. I use my electronics to find bait, and go from there. Size over numbers for sure. Hope I helped.
