It Is Getting Good In My Neighborhood
The moon phase, water temperature and weather are finally setting up a good spawn for the Bluegill in Upper East Tennessee. I investigated a few beds and spawning areas this morning and they are starting to show up, and they are hungry! Armed with crickets and Trout Magnets, I put the St Croix Panfish Special to a good test. Several small whisker fish and Drum gave my braid a pull and the rod handled them nicely. Early on, the males were cruising the shallow grass lines in search of the ladies and some grub and I picked off a few keepers quickly. I checked four or five bedding spots, only to get one or two more keepers. I finally found an area holding some nice male keepers. They will definitely be bedding there next week, I relocated 5 nice ones and left them biting. I do not like to fish a bed out, but just catch 5-10 off an area then let it rest. Seems to have worked over the years as most of the areas I fish have produced many meals for many families. My take home reward was 17, and the size was about average, maybe a little on the small size, but the big boys will start showing up in better numbers as the moon fills. Bucket picture

My goal each season is 9in Gills, not today. Grab some crickets and get out there next week, it is just going to get better.
