Hey fellas. I was just offered a job in Thomasville. Seems like a really nice town. My closest friend that lives in Quitman. Was thinking pretty seriously abt taking the job, but want to see jow many places might be around there to crappie fish. We have Ky and Barkley lakes where I live now, but the asian carp are a real nuisance. Please tell me abt the lakes I would have access to fish near Thomasville. Dont want to move and sell my boat.
Seminole, Talquin just to name a couple. Lots of good crappie lakes near by.

Check out the Florida board. Lots of good crappie fishing within a 2 hour drive. And they call them specks and white perch in that neck of the woods.
Lake Seminole south of bainbridge. There is a new lake west of Cairo that is opening Memorial Day weekend called tired creek lake . Dnr did a shock survey a couple months back and had some decent specks in it. They have a Facebook page you can look at. Lake Blackshear will not be that far either.

Lake Iamonia and Mickosukee are good crappie lakes within 15-20 minutes of Thomasville. The little lake in Grady County will open on Memorial Day weekend but will be crowded until the new wears off. Lake Seminole is 45-60 minutes away and has great crappie fishing but shallower areas are overgrown with vegetation and open water can get busy during bass tournaments. Talquin is 65-75 minutes away and definitely a favorite among crappie anglers no matter what their drive. With the 10 inch size limit and an excellent shad population Talquin produces nice stringers year round and has some the best water quality in our area. You won't be disappointed by the fishing compared to Kentucky Lake.
I love about 35 miles east of Thomasville, and I fish Lake Blackshear in Cordele and Talquin west of Tallahassee. Talquin is probably closer and a great lake to fish. Not as here as much jet ski and water ski traffic as Blackshear.

Well I haven't accepted the position yet. Still negotiating contract specifics, but it seems like we might reach an agreement and be Ga. bound. From the posts I've read so far, it doesn't seem like I will be disappointed in the crappie fishing in that area. We usually spider rig, push cranks, long line jigs, and occasionally one pole it in cover. If things work out I'm looking forward to lots of weekend time on the lakes to become familiar with the waters. We fished a tournament this weekend and the fishing was very disappointing. The crappie have really taken a downturn in quality due primarily to the asian carp in my oppinion. We caught abt 40 fish in 2 days, weighed in 12 keepers for 10.71 pds. Had abt 3-4 fish that should have been 2 pd plus and they were over 1/2 pd off. When an 11-12 inch fish weighs less than a pd there is a BIG problem.
