trolling motor release cord question

Broke old cord installed new one. The motor won't lock down while in the water. It locks down at the stored position. Minn Kota. Any ideas? Thanks

Just a guess.I have broke and replaced them several times through the years.You might have your knot on the wrong side of the release bracket.It does make a difference.The knot should be on top of the bracket. Take a look.Hope this helps you.
