Locating post spawn crappie
I'm not looking for any info on the location of your favorite fishing spot, I'm just looking for general info on where to look for crappie after they've spawned.
My shallow tree top "pattern" with float and jig has dried up, so I'm in search of a different pattern.
I tried longlining in 6-8 FOW in a 10ish acre cove off the main river channel yesterday over scattered grass and caught one. I only fished it for an hour because fish weren't showing up on the Helix. I guess fish aren't going to show up if they're buried in grass anyway
I have longlined twice with Slabprowler, once with Biscuit Bob, and once with CrappieFlopper. They very graciously showed me the technique. I've longlined twice now in my boat and caught crappie both times, but the first time they were all shorts and yesterday it was only one. I know learning to longline won't be an instant thing, I just want to make sure I'm not wasting time where they aren't.
I'm not marking fish on my depth finder like we did when I fished with Mitch or Phillip.
This website has truly been a game changer. I've met some great guys and have learned more about crappie fishing in the past few months than I would have ever figured out on my own. I'm truly thankful for that and to the guys who have selflessly given their advice and/or fishing trips to help me learn. You guys are awesome!
Now I've just got to figure out where the fish are. Should I be looking more along creek channels, flats or...? Any info greatly appreciated.
