I talked to Officer Houser who is a Cumberland Co. WCO last week. I asked him about keeping fish other then Trout from Opossum lake. His answer was it is not legal. The original proposal was to have it opened at a past date. However it was decided to wait to open the lake to catch and keep until a future date is announced. Any questions can be directed to the south central regional fish and boat commission office in Huntsdale Pa.
Might be a few years before anything other than trout grows to a decent size - good place to take the kids for bluegills. Took my niece over there last summer, saw a few bass that might have been pushing 10". They stocked warm water species 4 years ago after lake re-filling. Only fingerlings though.
Thought they would but in more brushpiles, log jams etc. seems they spaced them out 1/100yds or so, pretty sparse (from what it looked like right before filling). I think the F&B commission burned up all the extra money they had for the project after dam reconstruction on silt removal from the channel at the upper portion of the lake. Something like 6,000cy yds due to water level being 2' lower now, hence all of the new shoreline around the lake - in a few years Im sure this will turn into a dense briar thicket like the back side of the lake. Great for deer, sucks for bank pounders.
I am sure you are more familiar with the lake then myself. IMO this is not a exceptional lake by most standards. By doing some improvement work is a plus. I used to ice fish it 5 + times a year and fish for bass and crappie a few times a year. I am glad they were able to come up with the funds to do the dam repairs as it is a very valuable resource for recreation. I used to catch some decent crappie in the upper portion in spring. You could fish from shore or a small boat or I used my canoe was even better to cover the water I found productive. Perhaps I need to go and throw some small jigs in that area to get a idea of how the crappie fishing could be for the future. It would be C and R only.
Tony, caught crappie this ice season. They are looking nice and healthy but they are only about 6 inches. Bluegills are still small too. It's going to take about 2 more years until anything is big enough. I'm ready to get out sometime!

No clue on the spillway. I'm going to start crappie fishing pretty hard soon
