Eggs?
What’s everyone’s opinion on the stage of these eggs? Caught some dark males in 1 ft of water today and caught some what appeared to be spawned out females in 14 ft of water but also caught some females with bright orange firm eggs. Water temp was 58-60.

I've always heard if the eggs are bright yellow with red streaks in them, Mama is close to spawning. I caught some this weekend and their eggs were pale and mealy looking. I think the females spawn most of their eggs, but maybe don't fully empty out. I think they've spawned already and it's just about over.

I say if eggs solid they are not ready . If they runny when cut into it is close . Some shallow muddy lakes the spawn is pretty much done . Deeper lakes it seems to just starting in my area .

To me those Eggs look ready --- the Vent where they come out is the only proof Positive -- It will Protrude very slightly and be red looking

It's hard to tell about those eggs since the knife has been through them. It's late April. I'm sure they are close.

Best test is squeeze the fish and see eggs run out . When you cut into ones ready they run out . I caught some fish in 10 ' and deeper this week that spewed eggs all over my boat just swinging them in .Alot of your good fish never go to the bank .:twocents

I caught a few two days ago and the eggs almost looked gray in color. They were still in 4’-5’ of water. The smaller females still had the orange/ yellow eggs. Wonder what that means?? Spawned out?
