What's going on with the fishing at Kentucky lake?

Good read from the bass anglers side in the link below. Seems as if the word is slowly getting out across the country. Hoping KDNR actually does something and not just sampling and surveying . from experience the Illinois DNR sat on their hands sampling and surveying and did nothing to stop them.we heard the same things you are hearing now from KDNR. And no bubble barriers, a few bow shoots a year or small scale commercial fishing will not stop them!

oh IL is doing something about now the threat has reached the great lakes region. the carp not as bad around here as they been 5 yrs ago. i dont know if they migrated elsewhere or what. i read somewhere that zebra mussels are starting to thrive in KY lake. so maybe that will help the shellcrackers thrive. mother nature will balance everything out in due time. just got to weather the storm. IMO

The Feds came in and built the electrical barriers to try and save the precious great lakes . meanwhile the IDNR sat and watched for 10 years and they made their way up the Mississippi ,Illinois and Kaskaskia rivers . nobody cared about our rivers . hopefully somebody cares about Kentucky's . after seeing what has happened first hand here, I feel for Kentucky anglers. The credibility of the IDNR is non existent for many reasons and the asian carp fiasco is one of them .hopefully the KDNR decides to be proactive and not reactive but it sounds like they have been following the idnr's path.

I think the problem is our government only views rivers as transportation and therefore as long as they can float a barge down it or up it it has served it's purpose.

This is probably a dumb question but will it also affect the bluegill too?

yeah if affects chicago then they all on bandwagon but the rest of us are holding the bag. i read that the great state of IL was releasing alligator gars to eat the the young asian carp. so probably in few yrs they be a problem. funny thing is the feds and state setup all that stuff to keep asian carp out of lake michigan and they found some in the lake anyways. i havent heard if carp has made it to any of the big lakes here like rend, shelbyville and carlyle.

IMO i dont think they have as big affect on gills as the crappie and bass. gills like bug and insects more than like shad. just from what i have observed. the only thing i could think of is the carp destroying gill beds and that hindering the breeding of them. but i dont think carp are that smart. i really hope that kentucky dnr steps up their game and gets to finding a solution to the carp problem.

KDFWR did that here 5 or 6 years ago.

I believe they will have a negative impact on the research more so than the bluegill due to the depth at which the researchers typically build their nests. With nests in water deep enough to have massive schools of lager fish swimming above them, I could see the carp displacing the spawning redears off their beds resulting in fewer viable fry in our lakes. OR the redears will have to fundamentally change their breeding habits to compensate for these nest bullying carp which is less likely in the short term, i.e. consistently building nests shallower so that these large asian carp cannot swim above their eggs.
