Looking into getting some chenille and was wondering what size or sizes to order just to get me started. Thanks
Most Chenille doesn't come with a size choice, but they are 4MM, 5MM and 6MM usually.
Some are just naturally bigger like Cactus Chenille and some woven are smaller.
Just order the color you like and if you want it thicker, wrap it 2-3 times.
I usually like to use size 3, but will go up to size 10 for some of the crystal chenille.
Many suppliers, but not all, often consider size 2 to be “medium””.
See the size chart at Danville Chenille website.

It may be best to order 3 or 4 sizes to start. I use ultra for smaller flys and small jigs and go with small or medium size for larger bodies. Also if the water is off color a larger body may be desirable and clear could be smaller bodies. What type are you interested in? It all depends on what you prefer. There is no wrong or right IMO.
If it's a two color chenille size #2 is best as size #3 will make it look different. For me since #2 is fine for colors that don't include Crystal in them as adding that makes the chenille less dense so I use #3 for that is I can, but if #2 is all I have it will be fine! If you get any larger than these it needs to be for a much heavier jig except for using Crystal and that is just what your wanting it to look like. I mostly use #10 & #12 for Crystal and once wet in the water it sill lay back some and may a beautiful shiny body! This chenille I use on 1/32 Oz Roadrunners and on 1/4 Oz crappie jigs for summer. Now one note, if all I tied/used was 1/4 oz jigs, then I would see if #4 or #5 in other than Crystal would be the best. On the other hand if all I tie and use is say 1/48 oz jigs, then I may want #2 at the biggest except for Crystal and then I would have to think about that size?
There are a lot of other things that can be talked about when chenille is the topic, there are just too many types to just say one size fits all choices! Everything I buy it's for the best results I can get!
