ok you guys , I know a couple of you have the Suzuki outboards, what do you think of them?
I have a 19ft ranger walleye boat that has an old two stroke on it now, works ok, but likes fuel, and I am looking for something to take me into the (golden) :) years.
was looking at the Yamaha SHO, but cannot even get quotes for them as I am told they are not available this year (very high demand) I may wait for a Yamaha , but want to get as much info as I can.

I've also heard about the availability issues with Yamaha on select motors.
I have nothing but good things to say about mine. Very quiet, sips fuel, and runs well. They all come with stainless props tank tested from the factory for max rpm performance.
The 140 in my opinion is better than the 150. It weighs 64lbs less and is built on the 90 and 115 powerhead. Better fuel economy and what you lose in hp you gain in power to weight ratios. If you can go bigger, do so but if you are maxed at 150, get the 140.
The bad: Very few dealers in the State. They are getting more but it makes it tough to get oil and filters. On the flipside, Brown's online has everything including schematics, and it ships in a day or two. I buy two years worth of oil changes at one time. 1.5 gallons of oil per change and just over a quart of lower unit oil.
The only annoyance is changing the oil. Yamaha has a plug that comes out into a small tube that deflects oil to your catch bucket, Suzuki has a allen bolt. Also, to change the filter requirs removing the port skirting which is 6 Phillips head screws. Minor annoyance.
Both Yamaha and Suzuki came out with a 350 this year that doesn't have electric power steering. A huge plus over Verado.
Remember, anything 150 and over will require you to install hydraulic steering. Both Kevin and I have teleflex steering but I doubt it could go into your boat.
Would I buy another? In a heartbeat. If I had a choice, it would depend on price comparison and availability on when I want it. If both were available at the same price, I would lean to Yamaha just for ease of parts like oil, o rings, plugs, and lower unit oil here in Michigan. Ask me the same question in the south, I go with Suzuki.

I can go with a 175, that is the max I am rated for.
most Yamaha dealers will not even give me a quote due to Yamaha telling them they have no timetable for a delivery, could be three months could be sometime next year, that is just crazy, I would have gone with a Yamaha......now , probably Suzuki.
good idea on getting two years worth of oil at a time.
now to come up with down payment!
these motors are crazy expensive
as a side note , anyone interested in a very lightly used slick skin fish scaler?
bought it last year, works fine, wife says she prefers perch with no skin...oh well.

John I got a 90 Suzuki on my pontoon. It is by far the best motor I have ever had. Very fuel efficient. Starts immediately, and runs flawless. This will be the 3rd summer with it and never had it back to the dealer. Just my $.02
