I troll cranks all summer and do really well but this longline thing has me puzzled.
I tried for the second time yesterday to long line troll for crappie at Lake of the Ozarks. Water temp is 48-50 degrees and keeping boat in 10-15 feet of water. Marking fish and shad on electronics. So run the rods out with 2 1/16 ounce roadrunners tipped with BG strollers in a variety of colors. Running boat .7-1.1 mph and only thing I could catch were catfish and drum.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, sounds like to much weight. In 15 feet of water one 1/16 jig and jig body is enough. If I’m in 20 feet of water I’ll put a 1/32 and a 1/16. Don’t know about others but when there’s a lot of shad I don’t go threw the shad I have better luck out away from the shad. Vary colors and speed until you see what they like. Watch how far back you throw out. Experiment in shallow water so you know how deep your jigs are going down.
I dunno guys .... two 1/16oz Road Runners at those speeds, I wouldn't think was too much weight. I think "maybe" the Crappie got beat to the punch by the cats & drums. A Road Runner with Stroll'rs would ride a little higher in the water column than just a plain 'ol jig, at those speeds. IMHO
Also might depend on how much line he had out ... :dono
